5500 Pro Review

Sun Jun 28, 2020 5:56 pm

Blackview 5500 Pro
I'm still in the process of evaluation but the following observations apply:
The device is almost twice as heavy (225g) compared to my other Android phone (Wieppo S5 122g) although I cannot vouch for it being waterproof, shock resistant or dust proof.
NFC works fine for transferring Photo's, Contacts, Calendar and Docs but Word, Adobe and Excel have to be transferred by other means.
Annoying points:
Clear All function - gets in the way when multiple pages are open and causes all open pages to be closed if accidentally touched.
Clock on home screen is fixed size and cannot be enlarged.
Date cannot be set to show day as part of display.
On-off schedule for auto turn on and off could not be found.
When creating a Shortcut to screen, a dialogue box always appears and asks if I want to do this automatically. I choose yes and have to do this manually all the same.
AOL news, mail & video pages come up blank when a news item is chosen; AOL say this is not their problem; this also happens on my other Android phone.
Screenshot is slow and clumsy relying on volume and power switch being depressed together which takes about three seconds to activate. Afterwards you have to remember to turn up the volume for calls etc. Android 7 had the power switch for screenshots which was quicker and only single key action.
Backspace/delete function is terribly slow when typing.
Battery cannot be removed although YouTube have a great disassembly video showing how the phone can be stripped down.
Cannot utilise different colour scheme for calendar entries.
No bold, italic or underlining when composing, for example, this review.

Good points:
Faster download than Android 7 phone (of internet music for example).
Sound recording allows phone calls to be recorded if needed.
3Gb RAM.
16Gb internal ROM is useful but can be expanded by micro SD card; not sure of upper limit.
