well it is a bit difficult to know, on how certain applications from the Play market use the camera API of the mobile, so I would hardly be able to make remarks about other camera SW. One app I think is pretty good and is always optimized is OpenCamera. Maybe worth a try if you didn't try already.

As I am not using snapchat I would need to ask you something first. When you installed snapchat, did the app ask for rights to access the camera? If not snapchat is using a screenshot function rather than the camera API. Besides the resolution is pretty low with snapchat due to compression. If snapchat is asking I am quite sure they do not make proper use of the cam API and you would unfortunately wait for a possible update from them.

The camera quality is really poor in all applications, not just snapchat. The camera app provided is very bad. Pictures are fuzzy on edges, colour is very white-washed (i.e. over-exposed and with poor white balance)

I have tried many different camera apps, and the best one I found as a replacement for the provided camera app is Camaringo so far. However, in the last update this app provided, it now is really slow in saving the picture.

So if anyone has any recommendations for a decent camera app for this phone, I'd also be interested.
