3.5 mm Jack usability

Thu Aug 29, 2019 5:30 pm

Hello!

Similar to this post, I had Problems with the 3.5 mm jacks of Blackview phones. I want to buy the BV9600 non-pro, it's perfect for my uses, but remembered that flaw and wanted to ask about this before:
Can anyone who has the BV9600 share some experience? I specifically want to know:
  • Is the 3.5 mm jack longer/deeper than regular?
  • Are there problems with non-Blackview 3.5 mm cables?
  • Is there rubber around the jack that can be carved, drilled or melted away like in the example given above? It is astonishingly hard to find footage of the top view of the phone. Is the jack always open or is there a rubber plug in it like e.g. in the BV 6000 (which I had before)?
  • Can somebody maybe take close up pictures of the jack and post it here, e.g. via imgur?
  • All of the above applied to the USB port too. I don't want to be reliant on just one charging cable. Is there a way to use any USB-C Charger?
Thanks very much for your precious time.

One more thing: I do know that the best solution is to just use bluetooth. However this is not always an option for me. There are still legit uses for 3.5 mm cables for me, e.g. a car radio that does not support bluetooth, speakers that don't, using my cabled headphones...

Hi, Fulgur
  • Is the 3.5 mm jack longer/deeper than regular?———It's Type C earphone
  • Is there rubber around the jack that can be carved, drilled or melted away like in the example given above? It is astonishingly hard to find footage of the top view of the phone. Is the jack always open or is there a rubber plugin it like e.g. in the BV 6000 (which I had before)?——Blackview BV9600 without any rubber, the USB port covered by Nano-coating.

I feel the need to correct the answer from the Admin above:

(1) the non-pro BV9600 does NOT have a 3.5mm jack at all, I repeat: none! At all!
(2) there is NO adaptor USB-C to 3.5mm jack in the package. There are USB-C earphones in the package, in the usual "throw away quality" of all earphones which come with phones
(3) the USB-C port requires cables with a extended nose, 9mm or more. Normal USB-C cables do not fit in the recessed port! Extended cables are not easy to get locally, but you can order them from the big distributors in China for reasonable price. Nevertheless, I agree that it is a must to buy a few more cables if you don't want to rely on the one that comes with the phone.
(4) Instead of providing an adaptor USB-C (female) to USB-C (male, long), there is an adaptor MICRO-USB (female) to USB-C (male, long) in the package. What a terrible idea, totally defeating the purpose of having a phone with USB-C.

Just got my BV9600 (2019 version), and everything written by frofa is correct.

One addition, though: many regular USB-C cables can be made to fit; cutting away a bit of rubber/plastic with a pen knife did the trick for several cables I already had. 8mm tip is enough.

I agree, if you have a simple USB-C cable that has a plastic plug, you can tinker with it and make it fit. Not something I would recommend to the faint at heart, and for better cables with metal covers it won't work, anyway.

Thank you for your answers. Are there blackview phones that have a regular, fits all, 3.5 mm jack at all?
