Is there a date scheduled for the next update?

Sun Feb 09, 2020 10:04 am

hello,

3 months have passed since the last update in October 2019 and still no new version has been announced. The security patch dates from August 2019, it's very very long, I think.

And I repeat myself, why not offer more regular monthly security updates for example and functional updates every three months for example.

The Blackview are quality phones but a pity that the software part is not up to the hardware part.

because you did not buy a 800 € phone, the follow-up is not the same,
there are already some updates since its release, must already consider yourself happy.
At Doogee it's not the same , if you have one, you're lucky.

Funny answer. So, if you pay 800€ you are entitled to have updates, at 400€ you are not entitled to have updates, that’s right. Next time, I’ll buy a other brand for 400 euros, I’ll have updates like that.

You don't seem to be familiar with how the rugged phone industry works. Here are a few observations I've made from my research:

  • If you buy a rugged phone, the O/S version will never be updated. Some companies promise an update when the phone is first released, but they will never follow through.  So if you buy a rugged phone with Android 8.1, it will remain at 8.1. Same with 9.0; the phone will never be upgraded to Android 10.0.
  • You'll see some sporadic OTA security and bug fix updates in the first 6 months to a year after release, but after that they'll trickle of to mostly nothing.  This may be because the company has moved on to the next phone release and all their effort is put into working on that phone's OS.
It doesn't matter what company it is: Blackview, Doogee, AGM, Ulefone, CAT, Sonim, Kyocera, etc., they all operate this way. If the phone works, has no major problems, and you can live with the lack of updates, then you should enjoy it for what it is. But it's something to keep in mind when looking into purchasing a rugged phone.

Personally I prefer a solid and powerful phone like these from blackview instead of very up-to-date brand models but that, if you fall once by half a meter you can throw it in the trash.
The price of the hardware is affordable compared to samsung, sony, etc ... performance has nothing to envy to branded phones.
Of course they should invest more in the part dedicated to software support, perhaps by hiring staff.
P.S.
@BlackviewAdmin I am unemployed do you need help? :P

I didn't know "rugged phone" meant "no update", now I know it. And indeed, I will turn to phone brands, a little more followed next time to hope to have updates, at least those of security.
