BV9500Pro Intercom timeout

Fri Aug 23, 2019 3:51 pm

Hi

I've recently purchased a 9500 Pro, mainly to use as a communications device either with the Zello network App of the built in UHF radio.  I've been testing the radio on Ham Radio frequencies and it works very well, apart from one very annoying thing.  There seems to be an automatic transmit time-out programmed in for 30 seconds.  Whilst I can see the use for this to prevent accidental frequency blocking, there needs to be a method of changing the time limit.  30 seconds is way too short for most ham radio use, often in the UK we use 120 seconds for auto time-out on radio repeaters.  Is it possible for you to alter the App to allow a user selectable timeout please, this would make the 9500 Pro suitable for Ham Radio use, at the moment it really isn't.  There is also no indication to the user that the transmission has timed out, so you can just carry on talking - to nobody!

Cheers
Jon

Admin,

He *IS* using the built-in intercom function! It's the built-in intercom function he's talking about!

It's clear from the answers I've seen given in this forum on posts in the past that Blackview clearly doesn't own any rights to the intercom software nor the design of the radio hardware because all questions asked about these topics are always met with these kind of non-answers. It's obvious Blackview know nothing of the UHF radio in their own device and it's obvious that Blackview didn't author the intercom app. Every time I've seen a feature request for this app it gets lost in the ether. Every time I've seen a request for help with this app it's always met with the most basic answers we already know, answers no more technical than "flip the switch to the up position to turn on the lights" -- obvious things anyone buying this device for the UHF radio would already know. Ask a real question that requires knowledge of the product and you're sure not to get a useful answer.

It's a shame but it's how it is.

Ham radio community, we're on our own on this one. But what else is new?

I personally have been throughout every feature and setting that application has and I guarantee that video doesn't show how to change the "time out timer" because that setting isn't exposed to the user. This is another example for my previous post.

OP, I'm sorry, I don't mean to hijack. I'll step out for a bit...

The time out could also avoid heating issues for the RF output amplifier.....  Could be a reason for this limit !
Remember that's a mobile phone with UHF transmission capability, not really a complete Tranceiver !!

Of course, but isn't the user intelligent enough to know the reason there is a hole being burnt into their palm? No, it's far better to just cut the user off mid sentence with no warning and not let the idiot holding the device have any say.

But you're right. There's a reason for the limit.

There's also a reason ... several, really ... why I spent money on a new handheld transceiver, and I'm not spending any more of that money on repairing my 9500 pro.
