Can som admin explain this?

Everytime someone asks for the OTA update or direct download link etc, they are told to just wait and it will update...
But I'm pretty sure the update is not available on an XXX site... so we could wait forever

Or is there some other explanation for it trying to access adult sites while checking for updates?

So... it turns out it was the preinstalled fota malware causing this...

Successfully removed the malware using adb
BV9500Pro:/ $ pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.adups.fota
Success
BV9500Pro:/ $ pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.adups.fota.sysoper
Success

but that now requires me to manually flash updates... 
anyway to obtain the latest stock rom ( which ofcourse will contain the malware again, requiring manual removal) or ota anywhere for manual download and installation?  I don't trust fota to handle the updates....

So this is legitimately malware? I had assumed the "xxx" was just used as a generic placeholder and was done by accident. Someone else mentioned the same address in their thread about not being capable of getting updates because a firewall or the ISP possibly filtered out the site, but that's a legitimate, pingable FQDN?

That's my idea of unacceptable in a final, publicly offered product.

It's still very possible xxx is used as a generic place holder, as I get diffrent results by using different vpns...

but adups is still not a good thing

Considering the connotation of the term, "XXX", if I were a respectable business operation I'd be finding a different placeholder.
