[HELP] Google Dialer replacement

Fri May 03, 2019 8:08 am

Hi there,

I want to replace the Google Dialer and Google Contacts apps. I can disable both in Parameters. If I do it, when I have a phone call, my phone rings but no screen activation and no phone app (dialer or other) displays: I can't answer. Then I have a notification of missed call transmitted from the Call Manager system app and sometimes a sms (but I think this last is a service provided from my phone provider).

Talking about Call Manager system app (and Phone Services system app too), I activated all I could (all notifications, all authorizations, etc...) but nothing changed the problem.

I tried Simple Contacts, OpenContacts from F-droid and Asus Dialer & Contacts from APK pure (previous version since the last don't start on my phone).

If Google Dialer is disabled I can't phone, if Google Dialer is enabled and (Simple Contacts or Asus Dialer&Contacts) is the default app for phone, I can receive calls but it's the Google Dialer which displays.

Please help!!! ;)

nota: maybe a rom without gapps (Google Apps) could resolve this problem?

nota 2: I know how to flash my phone with spflashtool

nota 3: my firmware is 2018092919_s32v63c2k_jk_pro .rar from viewtopic.php?t=480235#p795494 (noticed as verified).
Other link: https://naijarom.com/blackview-bv9500-pro , which corresponds to the BV_BV9500Pro_V1.0_20180829 .rar from the first link (sha512sum comparison of all uncompressed files verified by me) but not specified as 'verified', that's why i use the second from the first link (the *jk* one)

nota 4: Google's Messages can be replaced with Silence from F-Droid (latest stable version, not the unstable one) and is perfectly working

Thank you all for reading me and maybe for help you could give

Bests Regards / Cheers everyone ;)

I see you tried Simple Contacts. Did you also install Simple Dialer, though? In Play Store they appear to be different apps. If course if they are, Contacts can't dial and Dialer can't look up stored numbers without the other app present.

So they're integrated and communicate between themselves, but are separate components of a larger system, so you'd need the Dialer installed as well as the Contacts.

Unless I misunderstood what you said you did...

Hi, I think I'm not so clear as I would be

If I disable google dialer in Parameters and put an other default phone app I can emit calls but not receive them.

If i keep the google enabled but put an other default phone app I can emit calls and receive them but when receive calls this is not the other phone app which displays but the google's.

Hope this is more clear to understood

Hi, I think i'm not so clear as i thought...

Firstly, for the 'demo' of my problem i keep enabled Google Contacts app.

Secondly, simple contacts and asus dialer and contacts can be set in parameters as default phone app, nether opencontacts nor simpler dialer.

Thirdly and first case, google telephone app disabled in parameters. Simple contacts or asus set as default phone app. When i receive a call the phone is ringing but I can't answer because no screen displays. Later i receive a missed call notification.

Fourthly and second case, google telephone app kept enabled in parameters. Simple contacts or asus set as default app. When i receive a call the phone is ringing and a screen is displaying to answer the call, but the screen is the google telephone's, not the simple contacts or asus one.

To conclude, i want to completely disable google telephone + google contacts anc replace them with simple contacts or asus dialer and contacts but with the problem i can't. Could it be a bug? To verify, is existing a rom without gapps natively?

Thanks again

Bests Regards / cheers everyone

I think I see. I'm afraid I can offer no advice, then. It does seem to be a phone/ROM issue.

So I'm with some other users, I prefer a ROM that has minimal interaction with Google. I don't like the pervasiveness that Google has displayed (also Amazon, Microsoft...) in our everyday lives. I would jump at the chance to have like I saw on my other phone's custom ROM where on install it asks which version of minGApps to install so you can choose how Google-functional your phone is. I don't like them being integrated into the ROM (why is duo installed of I'm never going to use it?) and having services run in the background that I don't need... ESPECIALLY data aggregation services. Honestly, I wish manufacturers like BV would just stick with vanilla AOSP with minimal customization. Optimize, don't brand.

I used true caller id for a while as main phone app and it worked, totally bypassing the google app
