Made another video. Uploading it now. Covering a few caveats, in case you do decide to take it apart. Will post link here.

Don't worry. It's "short" (single-digit number of minutes).

I recommend, since i know you have a Google account, using Drive and sharing the link.

Or YouTube a short video and share that link.

Cus I mean, if a picture's worth a thousand words, what's thirty frames per second at 1080p worth?

As you can see, there's nothing at the bottom of the SMA connection. After watching your videos, I'm not going to take it apart. I will need to maintain the waterproof feature of the phone.

Yeah, no, that's the right part!  The daughtercard with the radio has three spring-load wiper-style contacts that just touch the underside of that connector.  I can validate that as I have used the radio to successfully make contacts with other hams through a couple of local repeaters using an external homemade antenna, and I have had an SWR/power meter attached externally that showed RF energy flowing through the connected coax, so that's definitely enough contact even if it doesn't seem like or.  When you put the daughter card back in the case you can see the spring contacts take on the pressure for positive contact.  There is nothing to solder:  it just goes on.

That said, you're wise not to take it apart unless you have something like a thin caulk you can apply.  I've now made my phone worthless twice now taking it under water.  This last time I have not yet been able to recover it yet (but I've been busy).  That said, I just purchased a Baofeng UV-B5 that frankly is a better radio than the BV, even if not by much, and that was honestly the only thing making the BV worth having as it's certainly not as rugged as advertised and that was the only other reason to have it.  So I might just not worry about repairing it.  I'm tired of futzing with it.

Alright, that makes me a little more confident in doing the repair.
The glue recommended in this post came in today. I suppose I could use that or caulk to re-seal some parts. I just want it working so that way I'm getting my money worth from the phone.

I wish that I had just held out a few months longer for the Kyocera Duraforce Pro 2. It was released for GSM carriers only a few weeks after I got my replacement BV9500 Pro. Though it doesn't have the radio, I haven't found myself using it except to test it. My Baofeng A-58 is my handheld unit.

Went to a few cell phone repair places. One said they swap everything over for $50. When I came to pick it up, he didn't realize how much would be involved until he opened it up so he didn't do it. He did heat up the broken rear glass & install the new one. Pad was left in place & the new glass was re-glued to it. Put the recommended glass protector that was shared in the post on. Also made a small bumper to keep the glass from being the first thing to touch when it's placed down.

Debating if I should sell & move on. The system has run pretty much without issue for me so that's a plus. Just has had way to many glitches & problems in 6 months. So promising but the minor oversights are to much in my opinion. I am going to keep an eye out for the Kyocera to come up for a good price.

Huh... If he didn't do it because he thought it was too involved and he's still in business doing "cellphone repair" then maybe I should consider starting my own "cellphone repair" business. This isn't difficult if you're careful, and any "professional" should be.

I fully understand your sentiment though, and it is shared. I'm giving mine one final shot. I ordered a replacement usb-motherboard ribbon cable, a replacement volume button assembly, and a replacement battery (the connector on mine's cable broke). They should be here by August. If I can't get it up or definitively determine a quick fix, I'm done, too. The only reason I need this particular phone now that it's not waterproof and I've purchased a Baofeng UV-B5 for a radio is for its full netcom modem... And I can get that in a lot of far less expensive phones far easier to root. This device simply is not worth the effort.

I like the bumper idea. I might try something along those lines myself if I get the phone working again, but it only barely fits in certain pockets as it is, being so thick... It would have to be very small. Otherwise, I have some of those little rubber adhesive-backed buttons used as feet for project enclosures and such. I might just stick two of them on it there.
