[TRACKED] BV5800 Pro / Bluetooth issues

Sun Feb 17, 2019 4:12 pm

So I have this BV5800 Pro for a while now. It all works well, except bluetooth

Here are a few symptoms:
  • watching a video from my NAS. If I use bluetooth output, then the WiFi disconnects every 10 to 30 seconds. If I turn off bluetooth and use the 3,5mm jack, then the WiFi is rock stable
  • when playing spotify to the car stereo using bluetooth, it can stay stable for a while, then it will randomly disconnect from the car stereo. Sometimes it just happens once. Sometimes it happens a few times in a row, and then the car stereo stops all connection attemps to the phone
  • when using bluetooth to my motorcycle system, same thing: I get random disconnects
  • I have enabled developper options, to see if I could edit a few things. I see plenty of bluetooth settings, like AVRCP mode, codec, etc.
However, I can not change any of the values axcept AVRCP mode. In codec, for exemple, I can click and select AAC instead of SBC. But going back to main screen, it still displays SBC. Entering the menu again, it shows AAC. So I'm not sure which value is active
Is there a way to do a troubleshooting, and send logs to blackview team? I'm not sure if my model has a faulty radio, or if it's a software issue.

I followed all this, except a factory reset.
No luck. It still randomly drops bluetooth sessions :-(
Can I somehow generate logs that I could send to support team?

Do also one of these steps:

- go to settings-> smart assistant -> power save manager and whitelist Bluetooth using apps you don't want to close when phone has its display switched off.

- Long press the android "MENU" button (near the HOME button) -> enter the whitelist and add the Bluetooth using apps you don't want to close when phone has its display switched off.

Neither of these settings exist on a BV5800 Pro
I presume you mean to turn off battery optimization for the bluetooth using apps (this has been done) as well as "enable background app" android setting (sadly not available on all apps, but enabled wherever I could)

I have taken the plunge, and gone the route of the factory reset. I erased everything, including the SD card, formatted all, and and am testing now on a "blank" phone.

I have been able to reproduce at home some of the behavior. Here is my test procedure:
  1. playing a video using DS-Video, from my NAS on my LAN (1Gbps LAN network for the NAS)
  2. audio played through my stereo bluetooth headset (a Mipow M3)
  3. first I connect to the main AP, and the video playback is rock solid
  4. then I move within the range of another AP, out of the main one's range.
--> When connected to a secondary AP, the video freezes every 10 to 20 seconds
  5. If I turn bluetooth OFF, then the playback goes back to "rock solid" on the secondary APs, and all APs or the property.
  6. if I turn bluetooth back ON, while connected to a secondary AP, then video freezes again
  7. if I move back to within the main AP range, even with bluetooth turned on, then the video playback works again
I thought this might be due to radio interference between bluetooth and the frequencies used by some of the APs, but could not narrow it down yet.
I may try to swap the APs between 2 locations to see if this has an impact.
I also thought it might be due to the phone trying to switch to mobile data, so I turned off mobile data during the test, but this didn't change any behavior

By the way, I noticed that there is a hidden setting for switching between wifi and mobile data, it shows up in search settings, but isn't accessible from the user. I wonder if there is a hidden procedure to adjust this, which would allow me to troubleshoot further.

If nobody else can confirm such issues too, your phone may be faulty (sporadic case).

Well, you quoted yourself another thread where plenty of people notice bluetooth freezes ;) It happens on BV8000.
There are others on the forum:
viewtopic.php?f=245&t=484634&p=810075&hilit=bluetooth#p810075
viewtopic.php?f=242&t=470114&p=812368&hilit=bluetooth#p812368
So it happens similarly on other devices. No idea yet if it's a software based bug, hardware based or a mix of both.
I have asked reseller if I can get it exchanged under warranty, no response so far. If I get a go, I'll be able to test on another device. But I would still like to know if and how I could send debug info to the devs.

The issue is both hardware (on some models) and software. And many different Bluetooth devices show different behaviour with different phones.

Re: [USEFUL] BV5800 Pro / Bluetooth issues

So, I am back.

I followed advice and got the phone replaced. I now have a brand new 5800 Pro.
I installed just the basic apps (spotify & a couple others), did all the settings mentionned above, and tested on my car stereo this saturday

Guess what: same behavior. After a few minutes, the phone disconnects, there are a few reconnects, then the car stereo flags the connection as error -10

You might think the car stereo is faulty, but here's the thing, I also received a 9600Pro that I had backed last year on Indiegogo. So I connect the 6800 to the car stereo, and play the exact same playlist. Verdict, the playback was flawless with the BV6800Pro. It was tested over a 4 hours period, and has been rock solid sunday and today as well.

I tried also the replacement BV5800 with my bluetooth motorcycle helmet, and it fails after a few minutes. The 6800Pro, on the other hand, has already been playing music in the helmet for a few hours with no disconnects

I am convinced that there is a problem in firmware of the BV5800 Pro, since two BV5800Pro exhibit the exact same behavior, when other blackview phones do not.

So my question remains, how can we get this fixed. I repeat that I can do any troubleshooting that might seem useful to the devs to correct this (I think that this has been demonstrated already, but I thought I'd stress this)
