Release of the source code needed for custom ROMs

Sun Nov 04, 2018 12:16 am

Is there a possibility for Blackview to release the source code needed to develop custom ROMs, such as LineageOS?
Updates of stock software are often delayed and buggy (especially not-so-recent Oreo update), the security bugs also aren't taken seriously.

Don't bother asking... they don't care, see this topic.

I'm disappointed because I though that Blackview had the potential of being better than the standard chinese phone manufacturer... In my opinion, there are two possibilities: either they don't care at all of their customers, or there is something hidden in the source code...

This two problems can be seen as similar, either way our phones are vulnerable – security pathes are as important as not having a backdoor in the firmware.
However, since now I was just joking about a Chinese backdoor in my phone, now I am getting more and more suspicious. :/

I've read the topic you linked, it heads nowhere, so I wanted to "start over" and maybe get more people interested in this issue.
If I understand correctly, the license (GPL) is forcing them to release the source code, but they can do nothing, because they are a Chinese company...

It has been asked many many times. Unfortunately blackview is not going to release source codes, that's because of an internal policy. I'm sorry.

So we will never see a lineage OS or another cfw for this device?

I saw this video about the porting of and Android ROM...
Here the link: https://youtu.be/8ZKOo50bo48
It is possible try to convert the ROM without source code?
The only requirements are: a backup of your stock rom and a custom rom of a device with the same Mediatek version, in this case MT6757 I think.
So if it is possible I could try it!
