[SOLVED] Firmware OTA 20180308 apparently not working

Thu Apr 26, 2018 4:37 pm

Hello,
my BV8000pro has got really some huge problem with the microsd (and the lenght of batteries) so I tried to download all the firmware adjustments disposable... until the last. My cell phone doesn't recognize the presence of the last (20180308). So I downloaded it and here are the first problem: the file is in .tar form but the cell phone doesn't recognize it, It only wants zip file. I de-compressed it and re-compressed it into zip but apparently at the end of all steps nothing happens.
So you know!
Bye!

Once downloaded, the new firmware has to be FLASHED, as local update is not working properly at the moment. Nothing less, nothing more.

Check this tutorial about flashing:

Sorry, my fault then. But there are two problems: flashing means a really dangerous procedure and so it would be better to avoid it absolutely if possible and second: what is the meaning of putting in the official forum something that doesn't work at all? I still can't understand. Wouldn't it be better not providing an OTA that you already know doesn't work? Or at least not flagging [SOLVED] my question (that is NOT solved at all... by the way) but erasing files that don't work in order not to confuse newbie people (like me)?
Thanks in advance.... :(

Flashing is an option, it's not mandatory. Even updating your device is not mandatory, expecially if it is working properly for your needs.
You can download files to be FLASHED. If you read the ROM download topic carefully, you'll find written "Local Update: Save ZIP-File to your phone storage and select it at "Settings>About phone>Wireless Update>...-Menu>Local updates. Note: sorry but local update isn't working properly at the moment. This issue is being investigated!", wich means that you can't use ROM downloaded files to locally update your device.
As stated many times, OTA updates doesn't reach evey user at the same time, neither evey user!
What files should we erase? I can't understand where this discussion is going.
