As happened to user Sebi, your firmware version carries a known bug concerning the "background task clear" settings.
I reccomend to flash your device to the latest firmware (20180124) and then perform a factory reset.

Settings ->
Background task clear.
Now enable it and put a check near Whatsapp and your email client.Then go to
Settings ->
Battery.
Now disable intellingent power saving and disable battery optimization for Whatsapp and your email client.Now your device will work flawlessly!
