[SOLVED] How does NFC card emulation work?

Thu Dec 21, 2017 9:35 pm

Not reporting a problem, just looking for information.

In the NFC setting menu there's a option called 'Card Emulation' which is nonfunctional, reporting that there's 'No security element', how do I go about obtaining one?

I also used app called 'NFC Card Emulator' which successfully reads the NFC chip on my card but wont allow me to emulate it due to it reporting that the device is not optimized.

Essentially I want to be able to emulate cards and make payments without using something like Android Pay because I assume since it requires a google account and the data will be stored on a server somewhere and I don't trust that, I want the information to be stored locally/offline only.

Thanks

Are you sure that the data gathered by the "NFC Card Emulator" won't be transmitted anywhere else? ;)
I reccomend you to stick to the Android pay app: better having data stored on google's servers than who-knows-where by 3rd party apps!

I can't be sure, but I can restrict it's network access, I may have to use Android Pay if nothing else works though.

Anyway do you have any further information on android's built in card emulation mode? And what is a security element exactly?
If I can make NFC payments naively just using the OS instead of an app, that'd be highly preferable! :)
