can someone please confirm that 5GHz wi-fi works on his/her phone?
BV8000pro cant see any of 5GHz SSID around.

Yes, it is supported. Notice that 5GHz Wifi may have a smaller possible distance (for all devices) than 2,4GHz.

The issue is the hidden SSID. While i can connect to 2.4GHz SSID, 5Ghz is a taboo for BV8000pro. Other 3 devices (Dell laptop, oneplus 3 and 3T) I can easily connect to 5GHz hidden SSID.

Can you try this: update to the latest Firmware (today its 20170822) and perform a factory reset in recovery after that.

wipe data/factory reset in recovery (this will delete your data/settings):
- Power off and then press Power and Volume-up together for around 10 Seconds
- be sure that the little arrow point on recovery (select with volume up, enter with volume down)
- Then the open android with red triangle+"no command" is shown - press Power and Volume up together again
- Select Wipe data/factory reset with volume keys, confirm with power
- After factory reset select reboot system now

Please report if this solved your issue or not.

Already did factory reset with the latest rom installed. It didn't help.

Is there a way to check which regulatory domain the phone is using for WiFi ?
