Help! Touch functionality lost after phone was opened for repair

Sat Dec 29, 2018 2:10 pm

Hello,

I had to open my phone, to plug back in my rear camera which went disconnected from the motherboard (after a drop) and was not working anymore.
I already opened the phone in the past to replace other components and everything went always smooth.
This time, during the operation, the ribbon cable of the display also went unplugged from the motherboard. So I plugged it back in, plugged the camera as well, closed the phone and restarted.
Now everything works... but the touch functionality got lost, so I cannot operate on the phone anymore. i cannot even pass the initial PIN code screen, because I can't type in the code.. of course.
Do you think some hardware/controller got damaged? I didn't have this impression, but you never know...

Or maybe there is an easy fix that some of you could suggest?
Thanks for any help!

Hi there, it looks like the ribbon cable got damaged during your last operation, as such cable is very very thin, tricky and sensitive. Before doing everything else, please try to reseat it many times and perform a factory reset just to be sure. If it doesn't work anymore, you'll have to replace the whole LCD unit (quite cheap, by the way).
If you need new LCD unit to be shopped, I'll post some links here. Just let me know.

Hello @admin,

thanks for your reply.
I actually noticed something else, which is even more scary. The phone doesn't charge anymore.
When the phone is ON, I plug in the charger, the red led goes on, and even the message "charging rapidly" appears... but all it happens is that the phone overheats a lot in the upper part and the battery charges very slow, until it eventually stops charging after a few points percentage. In that moment the battery charge starts decreasing, even if the battery icon still shows it as charging. Is this due maybe to the overheating?
When the phone is OFF, I plug in the charger, I get the initial screen of the charging battery on the display, as normal, but then this initial screen keeps appearing every 10 seconds or so, in a loop. As if I would intentionally detach and re-attach the cable all the time.... Also in this case the battery doesn't charge.

Superfluous saying that everything was working flawless until I opened the phone..., so I doubt that doing a factory reset would solve it, as it is an hardware problem in my opinion.
So my question is, is this charging problem also related to the damaged ribbon of the screen? in that case I'll just proceed buying the display.
I did not touch any other cables during my operation, so we don't have many options. The only other possible option that comes to my mind, is that I could have maybe damaged involuntarily some of those micro controllers present on the motherboard, when I was re-inserting the ribbon of the screen. But I would find it odd. I have been very careful, but you never know.

Thanks for your help and any further feedback!

PS. I did find several links of stores selling new displays, but they all ship from Asia and I live in Italy... so the shipment takes many weeks to arrive.
If you do have some dealers here in Europe, please do let me know. Thanks!

UPDATE:
I made a 1-minute movie to show what happens during the charging, with the phone OFF.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QgHIx0 ... sp=sharing
If you watch the video until the end, you can see that the charging loops, and the battery level decreases instead of increasing.

Thanks for you feedback Rgaspar.
In this case it is not a cable problem, unfortunately. I already tried several times, also with another cable.
And actually I never had this problem before, despite having this phone already for about two years.
It just started yesterday after I opened the phone. Something went wrong in the electronic part of the phone, I suppose.

The second issue your talking about seems to be related to a damaged charging board, but the only way to be sure about it is to buy and install a new charging board.
Spare parts are available only from Asian stores, they will come to you in 2-3 weeks, but they are cheap.

Here you can find some spare charging boards:

They are so cheap it's worth to try.

Thank you admin,

the charging board was replaced 3 months ago, because the old one was not working anymore. After that, the charging was working flawless.
I really suspect that the problem is on the motherboard, because both the touch and the charging issues appeared at the same time, after I opened the phone, and they were not touched during the repair operation. On top of that, the phone now overheats immediately when it is on (in the area of the motherboard), also when it is not charging, and smells bad too. So I really think some of the pins/bridges/controllers on the motherboard went broken and the phone is now unusable.
In any case, to fix this phone, since we are not sure what are the faulty components, I will  have to buy a charging board, the display and maybe even the motherboard... With the same price I would buy the same model brand new.
My only chance is now trying to operate the phone with a mouse via OTG, save all my data, and then say goodbye to my BV8000.

In case you have other ideas, they are of course very welcome!
Thank you and best wishes

I agree with you, better to backup your data and buy a new blackview phone. Such things may happen to every phone of every brand, just back luck. I hope you'll enjoy your new phone as i'm still enjoying my BV8000 pro ;)
