[SOLVED] BV8000 Pro Firmware Update creates Error on restart

Mon May 21, 2018 12:01 pm

I searched the forum for earlier posts, but wasn't successful. The official Blackview support contact didn't work either, unfortunately... I assume, I am not the only one with that problem:

I tried to update my BV8000 Pro Firmware with the BV8000Pro-Blackview-V0.1-20170803_20180307-1950 update under Settings > About the Phone > System Update.
The update downloads (120MB) and the phone turns off / tries to restart. However, on restart, it shows the Android robot on its back with a red ! and Error written underneath. How can I make this update happen without loosing any data?

When restarting the phone (long press of on button), some apps (i.e. Powerpoint) shows up more than once in my app list...
I've had the same things happening with other apps before as well.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Remember that after each update a factory reset is recommended to avoid strange issues!

Ah super!
Thank you!

Yes, I had done a factory reset, yesterday... Unfortunately, I had my SD card formatted as internal storage with all my photos etc. on it. Before doing anything, I did a backup of the entire device and then performed the factory reset. The result was that the SD card was not recognised afterwards and was only accepted if reformatted. It also turned out that the backup didn't properly back up either - or was unable to be played back to the device after the factory reset.

Neither PC nor Mac wanted to read the SD card either.

After trying tons of things, I had no other choice than to actually reformat the SD card loosing all data on it...

I'm not an expert, but it sounds very strange to me that a factory reset is recommended after every update..!?
When updating my operating system on my computer, I don't do a factory reset either and my computer still works.... Isn't that the purpose of an update?
Given the fact that the phone doesn't accept my backups or SD cards formatted in exactly that phone after a factory reset kind of makes me reluctant to do that again.... Not planning on installing ALL apps again after each update.

Or is there a simpler way that I don't know, yet?

Apologies if that sounds a bit harsh, but I guess, I'm still a bit frustrated with all that...

After a factory reset, google should prompy you to restore a previous backup of your device. It will reinstall all your apps.

The SD card behaviour after a factory reset should be considered normal, unfortunately:

You should have done a backup of the SD card too, before factory resetting your device. That's how Android works.

A factory reset after each update is recommended just because sometimes weird issues may happen.... and definitely happened many times to many users.
We try to optimize Android and its updates as much as we can, but we have a lot of work still to do!
