BV6300 Proximity Sensor issue (not working)

Dear Blackviewers,
I'm writing here because I just don't know where to turn anymore and I hope someone can help me. I am a proud long time blackview owner, I first had a 6000 and then a 9500, as I have always been comfortable with them, I have had many members of my family buy BW phones.
The latest purchase was for the 6300, we have 4 in my family but one, my uncle's, doesn't want to work.
The problem is essentially just one, the proximity sensor, which doesn't work, or if it does, it works for a while and then turns off, as if it wasn't there. Which is a major bummer, because as you know without that sensor, as soon as you make a call the screen suddenly goes black and there's no way to interact except when the caller hangs up.
I've tried everything, from a simple reboot to opening the QC test menu from the *#87# keypad, where I couldn't do more than see that the sensor doesn't show any signs of life; I've also tried to access engineer mode as mentioned in many tutorials but the sensor calibration menu isn't there at all. I've looked extensively on the web, for other models it seems to be a frequent problem but for this one I' haven't found anything, not to mention that the layout of the items and actions available on the QC test and the Engeineering mode seems to be different from other models.
I hope someone can help me at least to understand if I can do something at software level or if I have to tell my uncle to get a new blackview directly.
Thanks
M.
