BV 5500 sensor issue; shuts screen, stops apps running.

Hello Blackview community.
My first appearance on this forum, a newbie to Blackview. I've enjoyed the first three months of a BV5500. Impressive specifications. I might upgrade to get 4G, 5G one day.
However, the sensors controlling screen access have begun malfunctioning. The screen darkens after 3 or 4 seconds, various apps stop running. It means, many great apps won't work- screen needs to be live, for podcasts, BBC, music playback, etc.
The website suggested *#87# for calibration, but these options seem to be limited, and haven't solved problem. Now, they suggest sending phone from UK to Romania, for repair! This isn't currently an option.
I've seen online videos of some calibration; does anyone know the best ones?
Grateful, for any pointers! Three months is too soon...
