Mobile provider requiring PUK number for my P2

Tue Dec 05, 2017 9:33 pm

Hi there,
My mobile provider - Tesco - has asked me to provide them with a PUK number for my P2 because I'm porting my existing telephone number to a new nano sim card that I purchased. Tesco said this number ought to have been included with my phone: it hasn't been. Any suggestions? Many thanks. John

Hi jpender,

I fear the information from Tesco is not correct. There is no PUK for a mobile, but only for a SIM.
Whenever you get a new mobile operator contract you are supplied a SIM card along with the PIN and the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key). Either it was given in a letter or you can view it online in your user account. This is nothing related to the mobile as you could use any mobile to insert the SIM card. And the PUK is only needed if you enter the PIN wrongly for a couple of times.
I even wonder why they are asking for the PUK, as you would get a new SIM card again along with a PIN and new PUK code. They could possibly use the same PIN and PUK, but it is not needed by default.

The post above is correct. I use both Tesco & Three in the UK. You only need a PUK number to port a phone from one provider to another when it is locked to the original provider. Since your new phone should be unlocked, you don't need this. Just put the SIM card in the slot & it should work.
