BV 9800 PRO adding a birthday to a contact and having it appear in the calendar

Dear all,
I just received my BV9800 Pro cell phone and have the following question. Even though I feel that I am technically versed and can search google, I am unable to add a birthday to my contacts (Native Contacts app). Android version 9 is on the phone.
I hope you have a simple solution that does not include saving the contact on Google or adding an additional app (I want the save the contact locally on the phone). I am hoping that if this is possible, I am able to automatically see the birthday in the phone calendar when the birthday occurs.
I feel like a newbie for even asking the question. Apologies ahead of time if this is ultra simple.
