I tried to write about this days after the news came up but my comment was blocked! AdUps is included in all OTAs, you are infected by the manufacturer.

There was a security problem in OTA Software which has been fixed in later ROM versions.
Older ROMs could get infected over the internet but not by Blackview.

To quote from the Kryptowire report: "The firmware also collected and transmitted information about the use of applications installed on the monitored device, bypassed the Android permission model, executed remote commands with escalated (system) privileges, and was able to remotely reprogram the devices."

This is a security problem, but it was done on purpose and I won't trust that application anymore.

The flash version is the safest option as it will completely clear your phone doing whats called a "clean" flash
the local update will do a "dirty" flash (flashing over a pre-existing rom
