Honestly I've chopped a little bit of the plastic off my usual headphones jack and also 2 usb cables.
Using my swiss army knife (or any other sharp small knife) you cut a little bit of the plastic. Works great for me.

It's true that I can't use my Technics more expensive headphones because I don't want to chop their jack. But then I only use them with my laptop so it's all good.
