Is Attaching a File restricted in Android 7.0?

Thu Mar 09, 2017 6:54 pm

I am using web pages on which gpx files can be uploaded. The web page has a Attach a File button that opened Dialog to choose file "type"(photos, videos, documents). When choosing "Documents" I could browse folders and choose gpx files.

Now on Android 7 the dialog box has only photos, videos and music file type to choose from. And no option to browse folders. Even if the gpx file is copied to the photo folder, gpx type file is not shown and cannot be therefor chosen. On Gmail app attaching files is limited exactly the same way.

This is probably due to Android 7 security being stricter and it is limiting file types and folders to work on. What work arounds there are to get the Android 6 functionality back?

If you would like, you can return back to Android 6.0, here is the link: http://www.needrom.com/download/blackview-bv6000-4/
If you are using Win 10, you may have some problem to install this, please follow the below steps:
1. Connect your phone to PC's USB
2. Open folder C:\Windows\inf
3. Right-click the file wpdmtp.inf
4. Select "Install"

I've sent .zip file recently from main SD's directory by selecting share option from folder browsing. This may be some workaround for letting files get out of the phone.

Thanks for the ideas. I checked the the permissions for the apps (Gmail & Chrome) and allowed Storage. This did not help. I couldn't probably be clear enough on the issue. Can you test this: Open Gmail app, create a new email, choose to Attach a file for the email.
- Can you choose/browse folders? I do not have an option to choose a folder any more.
- Can you choose other types of files than just photos, videos and music?

Thanks for the support.

I use .gpx files and have had no problem with saving the, moving them around to different folders, opening them in other apps, or attaching them.

To test this as you suggested, I downloaded a gpx file, moved it to a temp directory on the sd card, and opened gmail. I created a new email, browsed the sd card within gmail and found the gpx file without issue.

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions beyond this. Other than with one or two issues that I had to figure out with some of the apps I use and Android 7, I do not know Android that well.

You mean physical location: I am located in Europe, Finland.
I have tried Finnish and English as the language on the phone.

For both questions, my answer is yes.
I'm writting it on my BV6000. I selectez Add files, then documents, answered to security questions (yes) to give the Chrome access to files and was able to browse folders, seeing all kind of files I expected to see.

Similarly it works for me in Gmail application.

I'm using Polish language and system version 20170223.
