Please read carefully the ROM links thread. The Oreo update can't be flashed: it needs to be installed with the "local update" method.

I 've installed the Mediatek driver correctly (in my opinion). After deinstall (leaving the driver in the system!), reboot and connecting the (turned off) phone, I got the message, the USB-device is not installed correctly. The device-manager shows the Mediatek preloader com port only for a moment, labeled with error sign.
Whats wrong?
Note: USB-cable is original BV, 2 different computers with different Win10 versions

There are reports of the local update not working (tried it and it does revert back to the 7.0 version) the recovery mode appears to freeze and I'm not getting the ota update. Isn't there a way to just dirty flash it over system while preserving firmware from 7?

If the Oreo local update doesn't work, you'll have to flash your phone to a previous Android 7 ROM, and then try again the Oreo local update.
It's all written here!

The "error" sign is normal, don't worry.

hello everybody
I want to update my firmware with the “MTK SP Multi Port Download Tool" , i instaled drivers, it's ok ! but when i want to scan my phone at the step 5 , the port isn't detected , but the detection is ok on the system during 3 seconds, after it disappeared, are you sure the button to push is volume up??????? because if i hold too much it switch on the phone.......
1) Select the scatter file which is located in your downloaded, unzipped Firmware Folder
2) Select “Firmware update”
3) Select “Auto detect”
4) Press Scan to let the Tool search the correct COM-Port
5) Press Phones volume-up-key while connecting it (powered off) to your Computer. Use original cable.
6) Used COM-Port should be listed and selected in list on left side now. Remove phone from cable.
7) Press “Start all”. Press Phones volume-up-key while connecting it again.
8) Wait until it’s finished. Status should change to DL OK, PASS. Don’t do anything until this happen.
9) Press “Stop all”. Unplug the phone. Wait some seconds and start your phone.
thanks for your help

Downloaded OREO update to internal storage
Tried to use Firmware Upgrade App... upgrade appears to work (goes through the motions of updating) but then when reboots it is still Android 7 and no apparent changes made
Next tried Recovery Mode method... gets to step where it should load from SD card but again nothing happens
So attempted to use the Flash tool... fails at the checksum generator (gives error message DoChecksum fail (-1073545215)!
Totally stumped at this point as I have attempted all walkthoughs posted on board
