I must admit I'm not a very patient person. But there is absolutely no regularity with BV firmware releases. OTA or flashing files may or may not appear, and who knows it it's at the same time or months appart. This is really annoying.
 
And my phone has been sitting almost unused for a year (basically just a secondary phone), waiting for a decent ROM (without BT problems, let alone security patches) just because BV is the only brand that I know of that require to wipe the phone at every updates  and I can't afford to spend 3 hours setting my phone all over again to finally downgrade the thing if it's not better. 

So I'm really sorry for ranting again ad again, but I'm really dissapointed of the way this phone is supported (and I have no doubt all the others are the same). After a year, there is an almost acceptable ROM (but why bother using it now when you will release Android 8 in a couple months?), but 15 phones were released. It really looks like BV is happy to sell hardware and doesn't give a damn about software.

I haven't had any serious issues like you are experiencing even without factory resetting after every OTA update and I've installed several of them, the last 2 even one after another. Just give it a go and don't factory reset unless you run into problems. As you're using it as a secondary, it's probably not a big deal in case you have the same problems as now and have to reset. Odds are you're gonna end up with a better solution than what you have right now
