[SOLVED] Phone refuses to boot after first time in water

Fri Jul 27, 2018 5:02 am

My supposedly waterproof refuses to boot having been in a couple feet of water its very first time. I had forgotten it in my pocket in a 1m outdoor pool. When I got out, I realized it was stuck in a boot loop. Gave it a couple days to dry, then plugged it in and tried to boot it. Wouldn't boot, and I noticed condensation around both the front and back camera, so I took it all apart and it was absolutely swimming in water inside the case. Dried it as best I could, then left it with a silica gel pack in a baggy while opened up for a couple days, but it still won't boot. Needless to say, I'm pretty unimpressed with the phone currently.

Does the community have any last ditch ideas to try and get the thing going? I'd prefer to not have wasted my investment.

Unfortunately your unit seems lacking some critical o-rings, as showed here:

I'd reccomend to replace the charging board. It may resuscitate your phone.

Spent $20 on a charging board, didn't do a thing for my phone. I've now been without it for weeks. Is there anything else I can get doing?

Gotta say, this has been a very poor first experience with the brand. Getting help takes forever, and the company itself doesn't seem to do anything for its own mistakes. You guys forget o-rings, and somehow I'm the one replacing parts at my own expense/time?

The only remaining thing you can do is to contact your seller to have your device replaced under warranty. It worth a try. I'm very sorry for that.

Seller doesn't answer emails. Besides that, I'm not sure why it'd be their responsibility for your phone's issues?

I'll tell you right now, this will be the last product I buy from Blackview, and I'll be advising all my friends and family to do the same. This is phenomenally poor customer service. You had a quality control issue - it happens. But instead of standing by your product and dealing with it, you've shirked responsibility at every turn. In absolutely zero threads on here have I seen Blackview themselves deal with any of the reported issues here. That's entirely unacceptable. If someone's car blew its oil plug right after leaving, it wouldn't be on "Bob's Dealership" to fix the car - the car company would warranty their mistake. This holds true across literally every industry.

The phone might have been decent for the few months I had it, but this company's attitude will be the single reason I never support them again.

In China, the seller is the one wich manages warranty terms. That's how it works here, for every brand.
The fact that the seller is not replying to your mails makes me think he's not a good seller. We have official online stores, and also Amazon, with it's unbeatable customer service, sells our products. Wich seller did you chose?

Company was called TomTop.
And that may be well and good for China, but that remains insultingly poor service here in North America. Not to mention Huawei never had this issue when I was with them - they fixed their phone the first time it acted up. If that's the way you do things, of course I'd advise people to avoid your brand, why the hell would I recommend people use a brand that shipped out phones with a quality control problem, and still did nothing for their client base after shipping those problem units?

You can buy our products form the great American Amazon (and its great American customer care), from our Official store in our website and from our official seller on the AliExpress platform but you preferred to buy it from an unknown seller on an alternative chinese platform.... and now you complain about warranty terms, which in addition are clearly written everywhere, and about the fact that the seller doesn't answer to your emails.

As I told you on my previous posts, the seller manages warranty terms. You'll have to contact him to have your device replaced (or refunded) under warranty.

I'm really sorry, but there's nothing more I can do to help you.
Have a good day.

Oh yes, AliExpress - a beacon of trustworthiness. As for Amazon, they were knocking on double the price, and your own site didn't even come up when I was looking for the phone. You'll have to forgive me if I don't find "buyer beware" a reasonable response.
I realize that there's nothing you can do, just know you're sacrificing the North American market. That attitude is completely unacceptable here. Why in god's name would I possibly recommend someone use your company here?
