[SOLVED] WiFi, bluetooth and security patches

Tue Dec 12, 2017 1:44 pm

I refer to this : viewtopic.php?f=191&t=315997
And this : viewtopic.php?f=192&t=338128

No answer other than "not possible" was given, but it is a REAL PROBLEM not to have security fixes.
So, here it is again :

Admin, can you explain why the tech team make some changes like camera sutff, but don't fix the blueborne bluetooth vulnerability ?
I don't care to have more features on my phone if anyone can control it remotely.

The security patch on BV8000Pro is from july, FIVE MONTH OLD ! There has been 4 patches released by Google since july (soon 5) and 3 patches after blueborne was discovered.

If other users are concerned about this, tell it here: it should be known that BT has a vulnerability which is not fixed on our phones and this is a more important "feature" (not a feature, really...) than having the correct transation or deactivate a button or whatnot.

Why do you keep locking a post that is important for every user (even if they don't know why it is important) ?

Why can't you answer about the security fixes not being included in updates ?

Because i reported everything to the tech guys, wich reported back that, for the moment, they can't provide such fixes. No other infos.
Wich part of the previous statement isn't clear?

It's not about the clarity of the sentence, but the nonsense of not incorporating the latest security patch from Google on every new update, especially when at least two major security flaws (Blueborne and the WPA2 hack) have been recently discovered, which make our phones very very unsecure.

Thank you.

That's the good part. They don't really have to provide it: Google released security patches. All it needs is to incorporate it in future ROM updates.

Besides, saying "I have been told it is not possible" is not exactly clear as to why it is not possible. Such security patches should be a priority for any dev team working on any piece of software, that is why I really care about that. It's really really important for user's data safety.

I know that security updates are important, but i know also that implementing security patches is not necessary "easy" to do, as it would touch a lot of files and different parts of the firmware with the risk of new problems and incompatibilities. This is really probably the reason of the delay.

Thank you for those precisions. I can understand this is not an easy thing to do (and you have multiple phones model to update).
However, to me (and hopefully I'm not the only one), it's more important than a "comfort" bug (like camera, for wich you did a good work).
I just wanted to insist on the fact that security should be a priority, since we use our phones more and more for payment, sometimes even identification.

I agree with you, although "confort" bugs are definitely easier to fix!
Security updates are not available for the moment, not never ;)
Also other "famous" brands have delays on security updates like that.... not to be happy about that, but a trouble shared is a trouble halved

Android security patch level

Sun Dec 24, 2017 11:33 am

Actual level is "5 July 2017". That's way too outdated in my opinion. Why don't you update more often?
