[SOLVED] Question about 4G

Tue Feb 06, 2018 6:02 pm

I am using two SIM cards in my phone but I have 4G sign only for the one of them. Going in settings I don't have the 4G option for my second SIM only 3G. The SIMs are of different networks and I know both of them have 4G coverage since the second one is a corporate number and everyone else in the company have 4G in their devices. According to the network provider the 4G it's enabled for my number. Is there anything I can try to change to have 4G?

You can only use one 4g network at time ;)
Go to SIM settings to select your preferred SIM to be used for that.

As the admin says, 4G is only available one SIM Card at a time. But if you change the data connection from SIM 1 to SIM 2, you'll see that 4G will become available for SIM 2, while SIM 1 will stay on 3G.

3G and 4G are more important in terms of data connection (unless you need VoLTE, but that's voice over a data connection, not just voice). You will usually notice little difference in voice quality while your SIM card is setup to look for 3G or 4G coverage, since voice quality will be determined by the available signal in you area and it's strength. Of course, you'll get better quality on modern phones. but you'll rarely miss any call on SIM 2 just because it's set to look for 3G networks.

The big 3G or 4G signs next to the signal bars, don't mean your SIM is using 3G or 4G data, they indicate what's the best you will achieve on the area you're in, but it's also determined by the networks you setup the card to look for. The actual data connection speed will be determined by the little 3G or 4G sign over the signal bars.

Anyway, you can call on a phone (everyone) without a data connection, given that available signal is good enough, so it's not so relevant. The card you will surely need 4G on is the one with an active data connection. That's why some elderly people, still using old Nokia phones, only able to register on 2G or EDGE networks, can still make and receive phone calls, just the same as you. In the past, when batteries where smaller, I used to have my 3G or 4G capable phone forcefully set to just look for 2G or EDGE networks, since doing so saves battery. I was always able to call and be called.

I'm not sure whether there are other phones which can have both SIM cards set up to register on 4G networks both at the same time, but I'm sure that if there are any, they will be more expensive than our BV8000, or not rugged. It's the balance between features and cost.
