I think you are correct about the gold themed icons - I always use Nova and an icon set so I'm fine, but many people (probably the majority) don't customise their phone at all, so the gold will be very much either to taste or not (and I knew I wouldn't like them when I saw the reviews on youtube, but as I say, I use an icon set and nova).

As I said above, when using Open Camera, I am consistently getting better looking pictures and smoother videos than the stock camera so I think that a better written app solves some problems with the camera.

When I was much more frequent on XDA I noticed that people clubbed together to buy a developer a phone so that he (or she) could build a custom rom. Is that a possibility here or can we pressurise Blackview to make one available????

The gold theme disappears completely with Nova Lauancher
---> No it doesn't. Not completely. Look at the settings & icons, for example."
===

When you go into "settings" the settings icons are predetermined by the ROM on every android phone .
They are not changable.

What a launcher can change is everything else

If you played around with different ROMs and different launchers on your phone you would know this ..

You cannot change the theme on the default BVP2 launcher , while every other launcher alows it . Thats the difference tech man !!!

===
2) The sound issue -thats a software issue.
---> so, as a tech, how do you explain that being software? If I switch headphones from Blackview brand to another, the problem moves with the cables. And there isn't any software in the headphones themselves. Therefore they have to be wired up differently for the channels to move (in the P2 supplied headphones)"
===

Actually I have not used the CHEAP headphones supplied with the blackview P2, and I won't. I use quality headphones. If those CHEAP headphones are wired wrong , be glad they are wired at all ..
Buy a set of good headphones for quality sound and to protect your ears

===
xda developers will make better custom ROMs and you will be able to utilize the full strength of the camera app.
While phones like samsung come with a nearly perfectly working ROM , the chinese phones come with a nearly NOT working ROM. You have to wait for xda developers to do their work. I nearly threw away my jiayu s3 when I first bought it with the stock ROM . It was useless. but now with the custom ROMs from xda its excellent.
---> For geeks, this may be fine. for the vast majority of consumers out there, they wouldn't want to play about with custom ROMs.
===

You are the tech , you are supposed to be a geek , otherwise why even bother telling us you are a tech ?

Anyone comming to this forum , though they not be geeks in the true sense of the word , are called upon to flash a ROM with the sp flashtool . I expected that YOU would know THAT at least .

If you have no idea about flashing and don't want to learn and do it yourself I suggest you either wait a full 6 mths before buying a new low end chinese phone like the BVP2 , till at least a second mature ROM has been rolled out, a ROM that will be stable enough to use. The BVP2 has matured the second version of their MM. The first version of nougat is very problematic . You will have to wait for the second or third versiion of nougart to use nougart smoothly.
Rushing to buy these phones with no technical knowledge of flashing will see you for a good portion of the year with minimal functioning or non functioning phone

We are all "techs" here - so no need to plead the case of the novice phone user...

We can help you with info about downoading and using the flashtool , the mtk drivers and the ROMs. Slowly but surely you will become a BVP2 "geek". Which in reality really means you are now an mtk chipset "geek" and can handle any phone with the mtk chipset.

The screen has nothing to do with the quality of picture taken. The only thing that influences it is with the camera tech behind the camera hardware/FW, lens specification, the driver, and to a lesser extent the app that is used
===

Wrong again technical man ...

The screen has a lot ot do with the QUALITY OF THE DISPLAY of the picture , whatever the actual quality of the picturen is ...

If you have a 4K picture and you display it on a 480x800 pixel screen , you will NEVER see the 4K. The PICTURE remains 4K but the DISPLAY will only render 480x800

So because of the inherent differences in amoled and IPS displays and thier resolutions , a comparative analysis can only be made on a common (computer) screen that renders as much details as possible.

I have actually lived this experience - I had and still have and will always keep a Nokia N8 that takes nearly the best photos and videos compared to new low end and high end phones of today. And because the nokia N8 screen is old technology , I can only determine how it outshines the new phones when I compare the pictures videos on a computer screen .

===
The pictures you posted here - they are equally bad . I can't even tell the P2 from the samsung pics ..
---> That's because Amazon reduces the sizes. I still have the originals if you can find a way of posting them on here.........
===
Per screen resolution , whatever that screen revolution is , the samsung pics , if they are higher qwuality , are supposed to be better.

I looked at these pictures on a computer but did not see any difference ...

Just out of curiosity my name is pfavayi . It is also my username on a mail account on hotmail. (I am trying to avoid writing the full email because forum policy forbidds giving such info , I think). So send me the photos or videos there , or at leat a link if you have them on google drive e.g then I will get back to you ...

They are not changeable.
They can be changed in the resources of the APK file. These are 96x96 PNG files linked through the respective XML file. Of course you need root for that.

2) The sound issue -thats a software issue.
Many MTK chipsets have this problem and there is not a real guidance on how to change the setting in the engineering mode. But it can be improved a bit there, assuming you are not yet on Nougat.

Funny, I have a S3 as well, but in my opinion the 4.4.4 was the best ROM. Even if Nougat is out from XDA, the drivers are still maximum Lollipop. Mediatek unfortunately dropped the support for the chipset and I fear the same happening sooner or later for our MT6750T. I do not expect a port from XDA.

In my view the picture quality is really low, but I also saw code that was taken from a Xiaomi device in the ROM, so hope is there that cam SW can be improved. You could take a RAW image from the engineering mode to see an uncompressed picture and the compare it, but filesize is huge then.

A pity, we can't upload pictures here, so I could share some screenshots.

I think you are right - I wouldn't expect XDA to run with this phone - there aren't enough being sold - clubbing together we could get a developer a phone to customise?

Thanks, but I think I'll pass. I'm not in the least bit curious. I'm afraid you've mistaken me for someone who is even slightly interested in your opinions, insults or inane musings. Let me know when you've developed some interpersonal skills (including reading before trolling) alongside that overflated yet unwarranted technical ego and we can converse again.

"Just some thoughts from my end, if you allow."

I don't allow , but I will make an exception in your case .. you are a special case !!!! hahahaha !!!!

Maybe you didn't hear us right ...

We were talking about a user ( a simple user) without root who just wants to change the icons.

The icons that matter to end users can be changed very easily on the launcher itself on most launchers or phones .. except the BVP2

But even then another launcher e.g the nova launcher changes even those icons ...

Maybe you forgot .... with root you can change ANYTING on that phone , ANYTHING..AND EVERYTHING. Thats why its called ROOT.
You just need the tech knowledge and you are up and making your ROM look and sound like a ROM from Mars or Jupiter .

We are not talking about having root and changing the icons as root ...
If that were the case , there would be no discussion here ...

I think you just lost the aguement and so talked about root so you can say something true - BUT IRRELEVANT to the discussion..

There was never a question of root when the issue of changing the icons in tyhe BVP2 came up.

You dont change the rules of the game at half time simply because it suits you

You still don't get it ...

There is a problem allright , sometimes a really big problem ...
Most times you can't solve that problem through the engineering mode ...

And that's why YOU think the problem is the chip.

NO

The problem is NOT the chip. The problem is the ROM

That problem goes away , dissappears WHEN YOU FLASH A BETTER ROM in the phone. No need for engineering mode etc ...

The stock 4.4.4 for jiayu S3 was really a chinese user ROM for most phones .

If you bought your phone from Germany or Spain (rather than direct from China, HK ) you would get a better 4.4.4 ROM that had no issues. (the Germans and the Spaniards made their own european ROMs)

I bought mine direct from China , spent lots of man-hours in the engineering mode and googling - never solved the issues ( especially the low sound) , But then flashed the German ROM and the phone was perfect. Same thing with the Spanish ROM.

So you can now see that the statement "but in my opinion the 4.4.4 was the best ROM" doesn't mean much ? You have to specify which ROM you are using.

"Even if Nougat is out from XDA, the drivers are still maximum Lollipop" -- you are so idealess , you really dont have an idea what you are talking about. At least google before you write because if you dont you maybe arrested so saying false things ...

I really cannot explain things to you here because of lake of space and time ...

There are alllready drivers for Nougart 7.1.2 . Depending on hwere the ROM is based you will have good or not so good drivers.
For the S3 the worst camera drivers are from CynogenMod/ LineageOS. ROMs based on CM have a bad camera . Ressurretion Remix have one of the best cameras.

You do understand I hope , whenever a new android version comes out (Android 8.0 is out - Oreo) , the first ROMS (stock and custom , but especially custom) will have issues . They get ironed out with time and with newer versions of the ROMs - so you need to be updating .

The same happened with Nougart. Nougart 7.0 is problematic and all ROMS based on 7.o have this inherenet problem plus any other problem the ROM itself has.
For the BVP2 teh second version of MM is a much better ROM. Its Nougart 7.0 is not.

The same thing will happen to BVP2 with Oreo. The better ROM will be the second version of Oreo. The first will probably be problamatic.

Very soon we will be having something like this for the BVP@ on XDA. Try the resurection remix ROM. I have it on my S3 right now.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/jiayu- ... nt#romList

"Mediatek unfortunately dropped the support for the chipset" --MTK is going big on the chipset business . The newer chipsets are at par with the best cartex and snapdragon AND AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE. The big names are now considering mtk mow and some have allready started implimenting mtk in their phones.

You are confusing two issues ...

There is the HARDWARE side of a picture and there is the SOFTWARE side ...

The hardware specs of the BVP2 are great - sensor technology , SENSOR SIZE , PIXEL SIZE , etc ...
But There is a serious issue with the software to support that hardware right now ..

So it mnight not take the greatest pictures right now , but along the line the software issue willl the improved/solved and then it will outshine its competitors ...

As I said before , chinese phones have lausy software ..

Samsung and the iPhone e.g take great pains at bugless and nearly perfect software , perfectly adapted to their hardware ...

So its no wonder a much lower specs iphone can take better pictures than a very high specs chinese phone ..

"I'm not in the least bit curious."

Then this forum is not for you ....

"I'm afraid you've mistaken me for someone who is even slightly interested in your opinions,"

Why are you reading them in the first place ?

You are accusing ME of what YOU are guilty of ?

You have a problem ... a low esteem (psychiatric ?) problem

Overflated and unwarranted ego ? -- well I do have the knowledge , and you don't ..
I am sharing it with other technical people and spoon feeding idealess you ...

Try reading a book ....
Or googling at least ...

Then after you learn a thing or two , you can talk sense in the forum and hopefully contribute ...

Have you ever considered that such a change can be then provided via an update file, also for non-root users (local OTA)?

Well, I was referring to the S3. Did you look at the Blobs and vendor tree? MT6752 was cancelled 2016 and no new Blobs are available for that chipset. Oh and I am living in a country of free speech, so I am very relaxed concerning being arrested.

Really there is HW and SW, good that you tell me, I never knew that :D
I keep my statement that the picture quality is low, if there are improvements, we'll see. But at the moment the pictures are not good. And there are Chinese vendors that show that a general statement of lousy SW is not true (e.g. OnePlus, HuaWei, Nokia).

BTW, I don't understand why you are replying so aggressively ("dont have an idea what you are talking about", "maybe arrested so saying false things ", "you have a problem ... a low esteem (psychiatric ?) problem"). People have different views and experience that they share. I think that your replies aren't really healthy for a proper discussion forum. Just calm down a bit, there was no line of addressing you in any way personally.
