"Just some thoughts from my end, if you allow."
I don't allow , but I will make an exception in your case .. you are a special case !!!! hahahaha !!!!
"When you go into "settings" the settings icons are predetermined by the ROM on every android phone .
They are not changeable.
They can be changed in the resources of the APK file. These are 96x96 PNG files linked through the respective XML file. Of course you need root for that."
Maybe you didn't hear us right ...
We were talking about a user ( a simple user) without root who just wants to change the icons.
The icons that matter to end users can be changed very easily on the launcher itself on most launchers or phones .. except the BVP2
But even then another launcher e.g the nova launcher changes even those icons ...
Maybe you forgot .... with root you can change ANYTING on that phone , ANYTHING..AND EVERYTHING. Thats why its called ROOT.
You just need the tech knowledge and you are up and making your ROM look and sound like a ROM from Mars or Jupiter .
We are not talking about having root and changing the icons as root ...
If that were the case , there would be no discussion here ...
I think you just lost the aguement and so talked about root so you can say something true - BUT IRRELEVANT to the discussion..
There was never a question of root when the issue of changing the icons in tyhe BVP2 came up.
You dont change the rules of the game at half time simply because it suits you
"2) The sound issue -thats a software issue.
Many MTK chipsets have this problem and there is not a real guidance on how to change the setting in the engineering mode. But it can be improved a bit there, assuming you are not yet on Nougat."
You still don't get it ...
There is a problem allright , sometimes a really big problem ...
Most times you can't solve that problem through the engineering mode ...
And that's why YOU think the problem is the chip.
The problem is NOT the chip. The problem is the ROM
That problem goes away , dissappears WHEN YOU FLASH A BETTER ROM in the phone. No need for engineering mode etc ...
"nearly threw away my jiayu s3 when I first bought it with the stock ROM . It was useless. but now with the custom ROMs from xda its excellent.
Funny, I have a S3 as well, but in my opinion the 4.4.4 was the best ROM. Even if Nougat is out from XDA, the drivers are still maximum Lollipop. Mediatek unfortunately dropped the support for the chipset and I fear the same happening sooner or later for our MT6750T. I do not expect a port from XDA."
The stock 4.4.4 for jiayu S3 was really a chinese user ROM for most phones .
If you bought your phone from Germany or Spain (rather than direct from China, HK ) you would get a better 4.4.4 ROM that had no issues. (the Germans and the Spaniards made their own european ROMs)
I bought mine direct from China , spent lots of man-hours in the engineering mode and googling - never solved the issues ( especially the low sound) , But then flashed the German ROM and the phone was perfect. Same thing with the Spanish ROM.
So you can now see that the statement "but in my opinion the 4.4.4 was the best ROM" doesn't mean much ? You have to specify which ROM you are using.
"Even if Nougat is out from XDA, the drivers are still maximum Lollipop" -- you are so idealess , you really dont have an idea what you are talking about. At least google before you write because if you dont you maybe arrested so saying false things ...
I really cannot explain things to you here because of lake of space and time ...
There are alllready drivers for Nougart 7.1.2 . Depending on hwere the ROM is based you will have good or not so good drivers.
For the S3 the worst camera drivers are from CynogenMod/ LineageOS. ROMs based on CM have a bad camera . Ressurretion Remix have one of the best cameras.
You do understand I hope , whenever a new android version comes out (Android 8.0 is out - Oreo) , the first ROMS (stock and custom , but especially custom) will have issues . They get ironed out with time and with newer versions of the ROMs - so you need to be updating .
The same happened with Nougart. Nougart 7.0 is problematic and all ROMS based on 7.o have this inherenet problem plus any other problem the ROM itself has.
For the BVP2 teh second version of MM is a much better ROM. Its Nougart 7.0 is not.
The same thing will happen to BVP2 with Oreo. The better ROM will be the second version of Oreo. The first will probably be problamatic.
Very soon we will be having something like this for the BVP@ on XDA. Try the resurection remix ROM. I have it on my S3 right now.https://forum.xda-developers.com/jiayu- ... nt#romList
"Mediatek unfortunately dropped the support for the chipset" --MTK is going big on the chipset business . The newer chipsets are at par with the best cartex and snapdragon AND AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE. The big names are now considering mtk mow and some have allready started implimenting mtk in their phones.
"In my view the picture quality is really low, but I also saw code that was taken from a Xiaomi device in the ROM, so hope is there that cam SW can be improved. You could take a RAW image from the engineering mode to see an uncompressed picture and the compare it, but filesize is huge then."
You are confusing two issues ...
There is the HARDWARE side of a picture and there is the SOFTWARE side ...
The hardware specs of the BVP2 are great - sensor technology , SENSOR SIZE , PIXEL SIZE , etc ...
But There is a serious issue with the software to support that hardware right now ..
So it mnight not take the greatest pictures right now , but along the line the software issue willl the improved/solved and then it will outshine its competitors ...
As I said before , chinese phones have lausy software ..
Samsung and the iPhone e.g take great pains at bugless and nearly perfect software , perfectly adapted to their hardware ...
So its no wonder a much lower specs iphone can take better pictures than a very high specs chinese phone ..
